Uses of Cyramza Injection

Cyramza may be prescribed for certain advanced cancers, depending on the patient's diagnosis and previous treatment. Approved uses include the following:

  • Stomach cancer: Advanced or metastatic gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer.

  • Non-small cell lung cancer: Specific cases, sometimes in combination with other targeted medicines or chemotherapy.

  • Colorectal cancer: Metastatic colorectal cancer following certain previous treatments.

  • Liver cancer: Hepatocellular carcinoma in selected patients with an alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level of at least 400 ng/mL who have previously received sorafenib.

How Does Cyramza Work?

Ramucirumab blocks VEGFR-2, a receptor involved in the development of blood vessels. By interfering with this pathway, it can reduce the blood supply that tumors need to grow. It is a targeted cancer therapy and may be used alone or alongside other anticancer medicines.

Dosage and Administration

  • Administered as an intravenous (IV) infusion by trained healthcare professionals.

  • The dose and treatment schedule depend on the cancer type, body weight, treatment combination, and patient's condition.

  • It must not be self-administered.

  • Treatment should be prescribed and monitored by an oncologist.

Possible Side Effects

Potential side effects include:

  • High blood pressure

  • Fatigue and weakness

  • Diarrhea

  • Nosebleeds or other bleeding

  • Protein in the urine

  • Infusion-related reactions

Important safety warning: Cyramza can cause serious bleeding, gastrointestinal perforation, blood clots, and impaired wound healing. Seek urgent medical attention for severe bleeding, sudden severe abdominal pain, chest pain, or difficulty breathing.
