What is Cialis?

Cialis is a medicine belonging to the group of medicines called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. The active ingredient tadalafil in Cialis relaxes and dilates some blood vessels. This allows blood to flow into the penis during sexual arousal. Cialis is used in men with erectile dysfunction. It is also used for pulmonary arterial hypertension and for urinary problems due to an enlarged prostate.

How does Cialis work?

During sexual arousal, the blood vessels of the penis dilate, so that the cavernous bodies can fill with blood and an erection occurs. The blood vessels that have to drain the blood are temporarily closed, so that the erection remains. With erectile dysfunction, insufficient blood flows into the penis or does not remain in it, causing the erection to weaken quickly. The PDE5 inhibitors in Cialis inhibit the breakdown of the blood dilating substances.
Cialis takes effect about half an hour after taking it, reaches a maximum after about two hours, and the full effect wears off after about thirty-six hours.

How is Cialis used and what is the dosage?

Cialis comes in tablets of 5, 10 and 20mg. Your doctor prescribes the precise dosage. Take the tablets with a glass of water on an empty stomach, approximately one hour before sexual activity. Do not use Cialis more than once a day, otherwise it increases the risk of side effects.
What happens if I take too much Cialis?
No more tablets should be taken than the doctor has indicated. Taking too much Cialis can increase the side effects and their severity. Dosages above 20mg do not increase the effect.

When should you not use Cialis?

If you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients in Cialis, you cannot use this medicine. If you are also taking medicines called nitrates, Cialis should also not be used. Using nitrates in combination with Cialis can lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure. The antibiotics clarithrimycin and erythromycin and medications against fungal infections increase the amount of tadalafil in the blood. This makes the side effects stronger.
Alcohol can reduce the ability to get an erection. To fully utilize the effect of Cialis, it is therefore not recommended to consume alcohol before taking Cialis.

What are the possible side effects of Cialis?

Cialis can have side effects just like any other medication. The most common side effect of Cialis is headache. To a lesser extent, people may experience nausea, stomach pain or a stuffy nose.
